Through complex quantification and certification processes, the carbon stored on a land owner’s timber lands can be calculated and sold in the form of carbon credits (or carbon financial instruments) on the Chicago Climate Exchange or in bilateral transactions in the over-the-counter market. Valley Wood is a certified offset aggregator for the Chicago Climate Exchange and has extensive experience in working with landowners to shift their focus from growing trees to storing carbon.
